Trump Administration Reverts Student Visa Cancellation Proposal
The administration of Donald Trump had recently come up with a genius plan that would have thrown many foreigner students in the US out of the country.
According to the proposed plan stated that foreign students whose coursework was entirely online owing to the COVID-19 pandemic would be stripped off their student visas and would have to return to their native countries.
Fortunately, US district judge Allison Burrough who earlier threw out Trump’s travel ban in 2017, presided over the lawsuit filed by Harvard University and Massachusetts University of Information Technology (MIT) which challenged the proposal. Even more fortunate was the fact that Burrough dismissed the plan and overruled the government’s decision.

The lawsuit also ended in an agreement between the Trump administration, Harvard, and MIT university. As a result, none of the students studying in US on student visa would have to return back, a right protected by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s March 13 directive implemented in the light of the pandemic.
Other universities and tech giants Google, Facebook, Microsoft, and Twitter also threw support behind the lawsuit as they stated that attracting and retaining foreign talent is imperative for the future of the US.
