Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
The shot of China’s Sinovac’s Covid-19 vaccine was administered at a hospital in Ankara, Turkey, on Jan. 14, 2021.
Turkey on Thursday started its mass vaccination program with the COVID-19 vaccines developed by the Chinese company Sinovac.
After receiving the vaccination President Erdogan called on all political party leaders and lawmakers to encourage people to get vaccinated.
While talking to the reporters after Friday prayers in Istanbul, Erdogan said he felt no side effects after his first shot of Sinovac’s Covid-19 vaccine, adding that he will get the second dose after 28 days.
According to the Health Ministry’s data, the country has so far vaccinated 537,000 people, including more than 200,000 health workers.
As being reported, the vaccination program will move on to adults living in nursing homes, people aged 65 and above, and those working in specific sectors after covering over one million healthcare workers.
Turkey received the first shipment of 3 million doses of vaccines from China at the end of December 2020, as part of a bigger deal, and expects to get more in the upcoming days.
