Twitter has dissolved its Brussels office! This latest development has sparked concerns from E.U. Policymakers!

The  Financial Times reported on Thursday that the Twitter has folded its Brussels office following a wave of company-wide cuts and departures.

Although the Brussels office was small, it was perceived as a “crucial conduit to European policymakers,” the report added.

Many employees of the Brussels Twitter office already had left after the large round of layoffs at the company.

According to the Financial Times, two people were left in charge of Twitter’s digital policy in Europe. They also left last week.

According to the experts, the disbanding of the Brussels office is taking place at a critical time as the Digital Services Act came into effect last week, and EU officials are concerned that Twitter will not abide by these new rules.

European Commissioner Jourova, responsible for countering disinformation, has expressed her concerns over the development.

“Twitter has been a useful partner in the fight against disinformation and illegal hate speech and this must not change,” she told the newspaper.

The European Commission is reportedly expected to release new figures today showing that Twitter has removed about 5 percent fewer hate speech messages than a year ago.
