Two children, plumber killed after falling into a well in Karachi’s Garden area
The tragic incident took place inside the compound of a residential building near Fawara Chowk in Garden East on Sunday evening.
Two young boys and a young man reported to be a plumber, lost their lives after falling into a 120-foot-deep submersible pump well in a Karachi neighbourhood of Garden West area.
As reported, the incident occurred inside the compound of a residential building near Fawara Chowk in Garden East on Sunday evening.
Both the children, identified as Badar and Talha and the plumber were pulled out in critical condition and were later declared dead, according to rescue officials.
Eyewitnesses reported that the boys were “jumping” on the well’s lid when it unexpectedly gave way under their weight, causing the 8- and 12-year-old victims to plummet to the bottom, where a submersible water pump was located.
In their desperation, residents summoned a local plumber to rescue the children, but unfortunately, he also perished when the rope he was using broke, according to those present.
The rescue teams informed a local news channel that they struggled to extract the children from the well due to its narrow dimensions.
They said that one of their workers also got stuck inside the well but he was later pulled out safely.
According to the residents, when the plumber stepped into the well, he told them about the “lack of oxygen” inside.
“He tied both children to his body with a rope and asked us to pull it up, but it broke,” they added.
