UK Govt Declares Hasan Nawaz a ‘Deliberate Tax Defaulter’ Over £9.4 Million Dues

The UK government has updated the list of defaulters on its official website

Hasan Nawaz Sharif, the son of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, has been declared a “deliberate tax defaulter” by the United Kingdom (UK) government’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC).

The UK government has updated the list of defaulters on its official website, which included Hasan’s name.

The UK government has declared Hasan Nawaz a “tax defaulter” for failing to pay £9.4 million in taxes between April 5, 2015, and April 6, 2016.

According to the same source, the UK tax authority has also imposed a £5.2 million penalty on the former prime minister’s son. The period of default spans from April 6, 2015, to April 5, 2016.

Nawaz was unavailable for comment, but a legal source close to him claimed he had paid all “due taxes” for that period. However, HMRC later demanded additional taxes several years beyond the statutory time limit, which he disputed and refused to pay. “Nawaz’s bankruptcy will be formalized next month, in April 2025,” the source added.

It was revealed late last year that Hasan Nawaz had been declared bankrupt by the London High Court in a tax and liability case brought by the UK government’s tax and revenue department.

The official UK Gazette, which maintains public records, published details of the bankruptcy. It stated that Hasan, a resident of Flat 17, Avenfield House, 118 Park Lane, and a company director, was declared bankrupt by the High Court of Justice in case No. 694 of 2023, filed on August 25, 2023. The bankruptcy order was issued on April 29, 2024, following a case brought by creditors over non-payment.
