UN Rapporteur Calls for Global Medical Community to Sever Ties with Israel Over Gaza Healthcare Crisis

At least 30 Palestinians were butchered in Israeli military assaults across Gaza on Sunday

Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories, has recently called on medical professionals globally to sever ties with Israel.

This appeal is a direct response to what she describes as the “full destruction” of Gaza’s healthcare system amid ongoing military actions by Israel, which she characterizes as part of a broader genocidal strategy against Palestinians.

In her statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Albanese emphasized the urgency of this action: “I urge medical professionals worldwide to pursue the severance of all ties with Israel as a concrete way to forcefully denounce Israel’s full destruction of the Palestinian healthcare system in Gaza, a critical tool of its ongoing genocide”.

This statement reflects her ongoing critique of Israel’s military operations, which have severely impacted medical facilities in Gaza and contributed to widespread humanitarian crises.

Albanese’s remarks come at a time when the conflict has escalated significantly, leading to devastating effects on Palestinian infrastructure, particularly healthcare. Her position has drawn attention and controversy, as she has previously accused Israel of committing acts that could be classified as genocide against the Palestinian people.

In her reports to the UN, she has highlighted systematic violence and displacement affecting Palestinians, framing these actions within a historical context of occupation and ethnic cleansing.

At least 30 Palestinians were butchered in Israeli military assaults across Gaza on Sunday, including seven during an attack on al-Wafaa Hospital and nine in an attack on the Nuseirat refugee camp, Al Jazeera reported.

Meanwhile, Israeli occupational forces rounded up four Palestinian patients, including one in critical condition, during transferring from the Indonesian Hospital in Beit Lahiya to al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.

On the other hand, the head of the World Health Organisation Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Monday called for granting Gazans access to health care.
