Eleven US troops were wounded in the Iranian missile attack on the Al-Asad airbase in Iraq on January 8 launched in vengeance for the assassination of a top Iranian general.
A spokesman for US Central Command, Captain Bill Urban said in a statement on Thursday that Iranian strike wounded eight members of US service while no service member killed in retaliation.
“While no US service members were killed in the January 8 Iranian attack on Al Asad Airbase, several were treated for concussion symptoms from the blast and are still being assessed,” he said.
“As a measure of caution, some service members were taken to US facilities in Germany or Kuwait for “follow-on screening when deemed fit for duty, the service members are expected to return to Iraq,” he added.
The spokesperson further said 11 of its troops showed symptoms of concussion in Iranian retaliation after initially saying no troops were wounded.
“About a week after the attack some service members were still experiencing some symptoms of concussion,” the official said.
