Veteran journalist Muhammad Ziauddin passes away

Veteran journalist Muhammad Ziauddin passed away in Islamabad on Monday after a period of prolonged illness.

A former editor of Dawn, The News, and Executive Editor of The Express Tribune – and a mentor was 83.

His funeral prayer will be held after Asr in the cemetery of the Islamabad Society.

He has been associated with print media for the past 60 years.

Muhammad Ziauddin worked as editor of daily Dawn and The News.

Currently, he was associated with the Express Tribune as a column writer.

After obtaining Masters’s degree in Journalism from Karachi University in 1964, he stepped into the field of reporting as a cub reporter in Pakistan Press International.

He also served as a resident editor for Dawn Islamabad and Lahore.

He was also the paper’s correspondent in London from 2006 to 2009.

He also served as the assistant secretary-general for the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists and as the president of the South Asia Free Media Association from 2002 to 2006.

Following the news of his demise, condolences and tributes continue to pour in on social media from politicians and the country’s journalism and media community.
