Where is Ehsanullah Ehsan, former spokesman of TTP and Jamaatul Ahrar

The audio message that was allegedly recorded and released by the former spokesperson of Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and later its offshoot, Jamaatul Ahrar (JuA) on social media, raises concerns over the alleged reports of Ehsanullah Ehsan’s escape from the custody of security agencies.

Ehsanullah Ehsan, in the audio message, claimed on Thursday about his successful escape from Pakistani security authorities’ custody along with his family, including a wife, son, and daughter.

“I am Ehsanullah Ehsan. I am the former spokesman of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan and Jamaatul Ahrar. I had surrendered to the Pakistani security authorities on February 5, 2017 under an agreement. I honoured this agreement for three years, but the Pakistani authorities violated it and kept me in a prison along with my children,” he alleged in the statement released to the media.

Ehsan claimed he had confronted adversities during his sentence for three years and was forced to make a plan for escape from their custody.

He has claimed the responsibility for carrying out scores of terrorist attacks on Pakistani soil over the years, which resulted in the deaths of hundreds of civilians and armed forces personnel.

Ehsan further claimed that he had escaped from custody on January 11, 2020, adding that he will “make clear” his upcoming plan once he decides it “soon”.

The alleged audio-clip by Ehsan has been circulating on social media. The clip was originally posted on a Facebook profile by the name of Liaqat Ali. The authenticity of the audio message audio clip has not been verified yet.

There has been no official statement released so far, nor the intelligence agencies confirmed or denied the report.

On Friday, The News quoted Ehsan as saying that he had run-away to Turkey, adding that he had refused to reveal details of the escape.

“I can’t tell you more but I can tell you that I am in Turkey at the moment along with my wife, son, and daughter. Don’t ask me how I reached here as I can’t tell you right now,” the former TTP and Jamaatul Ahrar spokesman said.

After the news surfaces on former TTP and Jamaatul Ahrar spokesman’s escape, opposition parties leaders demand answers regarding his whereabouts.
