Who Will Win The Pakistan Super League in 2023?

Anticipation is building ahead of the eighth running of the Pakistan Super League, which is due to kick off on February 13 and run through to March 19. The Pakistan Super League, also known as the PSL, will see thirty-four games take place across the cricketing event, and we’ve got the lowdown on the teams expected to go well.

Islamabad United

Islamabad United are currently the only team who competes in the PSL to get their hands on the winner’s trophy twice, which is why when anyone is betting on the cricket tournament, they’re going to start as one of the favourites, if not the favourite to make it a hat trick of victories. Islamabad United won the PSL in 2016, the tournament’s debut year, and 2018, and they also hold the record for the most wins at the event. The likes of Moeen Ali and Alex Hales being in their ranks will only strengthen their claims.

Lahore Qalanders

It doesn’t matter what sporting tournament it is; defending champions are always going to pose a significant threat, and that’s certainly what you expect from Lahore Qalanders, the PSL’s defending champions. As well as having a star-studded team featuring talents such as Rashid Khan, Harry Brook, Fakhar Zaman and Liam Dawson, there is also the incentive to level things up with Islamabad United by becoming two-time champions. On their day, Lahore Qalanders can beat anyone as a team, and they also have match-winners in their ranks.

Peshawar Zalmi

Peshawar Zalmi are an interesting proposition because they have shown their quality many times before. But you have to go way back to 2017 to see them take that step to the top of the PSL, and that’s potentially the negative here. On the one hand, you can say they have been unlucky at times, which is an accurate call. But, on the other hand, you could also argue they have to spring into life from the very first game and then work together as a collective, something they fail to do too often. The credentials are there, and so are the qualities of Babar Azam, who leads the teams, and the players who will be involved.

Multan Sultans

Multan Sultans are a team who have aged well in the PSL. When the Pakistan Super League began in 2016, Multan Sultans didn’t do themselves justice at all for the first two runnings of the competition. However, they soon started to make progress, and in 2018 they put themselves right in the frame. The key was always going to be to keep moving forwards, and in 2021 they reached the summit by winning the PSL. And, to prove it wasn’t a flash in the pan, they were runners-up last year to Lahore Qalanders. When a team shows this level of progress and consistency, they will always be a threat, and they should do well this year.
