Hundreds of firefighters, supported by numerous water-dropping planes, are fighting a large forest fire on the northern edges of the Greek capital, Athens.
Hospitals, towns, and some suburbs around Athens were evacuated early Monday morning, with more than a dozen additional areas also being cleared. Sports halls and hotels are being readied to accommodate those displaced by the blaze.
Authorities have stated that climate change is driving larger and more frequent fires and declared a state of emergency in the affected regions.
