Salem Al-Dawsari hit a stunning winner to sink the red-hot favourites, bringing the South American side's 36-match unbeaten run to a shuddering halt.

2-time world champions Argentina was defeated by Saudi Arabia in a major upset of world cup match on Tuesday.

In the ongoing Football World Cup in Qatar, Saudi Arabia caused a big upset by defeating Argentina 1-2 after a sensational match of Group C at the Lusail Iconic Stadium.

The Saudi team ranked 51st in FIFA’s world ranking defeated world number 3 Argentina by one goal to 2 in the World Cup.

Star footballer Lionel Messi scored a penalty goal in the 10th minute on behalf of 2-time world champion Argentina.

On behalf of Saudi Arabia, Saleh Shahiri equalized the goal in the 48th minute. 

And it was Salim Al-Dosari of Saudi Arabia who scored the second goal in the 53rd minute to give the team the lead in the match which was maintained till the final whistle of the match.

The Argentinian team tried hard to score again and made numerous attacks, but Saudi Arabia’s goalkeeper Alawis performed brilliantly well and saved several decisive goals.

Argentina’s two goals were ruled out for offside, Saudi Arabia’s goalkeeper Alaves made at least 5 clear saves.

Salem Al-Dawsari’s stunning hit proved to be the winner for KSA to sink the red-hot favourites, bringing the South American side’s 36-match unbeaten run to a shuddering halt.
