Afghanistan thump New Zealand in massive upset

Afghanistan’s bowlers took their team to an 84-run run victory in the T20 World Cup.

Afghanistan thumped New Zealand in a major upset on Saturday in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 at the Providence Stadium in Georgetown, Guyana.

While chasing the target of 160 runs, the New Zealand team was bowled out for 75 in 15.2 overs.

Afghanistan captain and spinner Rashid Khan took four wickets against 17 runs in his team’s second decisive victory in the tournament

Afghanistan previously defeated Uganda by 125 runs at the same venue on Tuesday and is on top of Group C.

New Zealand invited Afghanistan to bat first after winning the toss. Rahmanullah Gurbaz played a brilliant innings and lifted his team’s total to 159 at the loss of six wickets.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored 80 off 56 balls with the help of five boundaries and as many maximums.

Gurbaz was followed by Ibrahim Zadran who hit two sixs and three fours to score 44 runs off 41 balls.

Meanwhile, Azmatullah Omarzai played 13 balls to score 22 runs. Captain Rashid Khan returned to the pavilion after hitting 6 runs.

Trent Boult and Matt Henry took two wickets each for Zew Zealand.
