Australian Cricketers to Leave India Following Temporary Suspension of IPL Amid Security Concerns
Some Australian players based in India could fly home as soon as Saturday

Australian cricketers are set to leave India following the temporary suspension of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 for one week due to escalating military tensions between India and Pakistan.
The IPL was suspended “with immediate effect for one week” after a match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala was abandoned midway amid security concerns, including air raid alerts and missile attacks near the border region.
“Some Australian players based in India could fly home as soon as Saturday, AFP quoted the Australian Broadcasting Corporation as saying.
Among the Australian players involved in the IPL are Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, and Mitch Marsh, with former captain Ricky Ponting coaching Punjab Kings.
Reports indicate that many Australian players have expressed anxiety over their safety and are ready to leave India as soon as possible, particularly those based near sensitive border areas. Some Australian players could fly home as soon as Saturday following the suspension.
The BCCI decided after consultations with franchisees, broadcasters, sponsors, and players, prioritising safety amid the ongoing conflict. The IPL governing council is reviewing the situation and may consider rescheduling the remaining matches later in the year, with the possibility of relocating the tournament to a neutral venue like South Africa if needed.
