Babar Azam has been named ICC cricketer of the year 2022!

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has bagged another accolade to his name as he has been declared the winner of the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for Men’s Cricketer of 2022.

Babar became the only player to breach the 2000-run mark during the calendar year 2022 across all formats, scoring 679 ODI runs with 8 50+ scores in nine games.

The right-hander, scored 2598 runs in 44 matches in 2022, averaging 54.12 with eight centuries and 15 half-centuries.

Babar Azam on Winning the Honour

Pakistan cricket team captain Babar Azam says that it is an honour to win the Sir Garfield Sobers Award, the joy he feels after winning the biggest award in cricket cannot be expressed in words.

Babar Azam said that getting the biggest award in cricket has made Pakistan famous, which makes him extremely happy.

Behind this award was a lot of hard work, performing throughout the year and maintaining consistency at their ground against different teams in different conditions apart from the home ground, he added.

Pakistan skipper went on to add that in recent times International cricket has increased subsequently, and when the test series ends, white ball cricket starts immediately, this quick switching improves the game, mentally strong, you have to keep yourself fitter, after which you get the award.

“So the motivation also increases and the confidence also increases, and the determination to maintain the same performance is created in the future,” he added.

The national team captain said that names of big players like Ben Stokes, Sikandar Raza and Tim Southee were also included in the shortlist for this award.

Babar Azam said that he played many good innings throughout the year, but his innings of 196 runs against Australia in the red ball and the century against England in the white ball is one of the best performances of the year that he remembers, mainly because both Innings he scored in front of a home crowd at home ground.

The Pakistani captain further added that he will give the credit for winning this award to his family, teammates and fans who supported him every moment.
