Bangladesh whitewash Pakistan in Test series
With today’s defeat, Pakistan has now lost five consecutive Tests in the ongoing World Test Championship
That’s a huge achievement for Bangladesh! A clean sweep over Pakistan in a Test series is quite a milestone.
The victory in the second Test with a six-wicket win against Pakistan shows they performed exceptionally well.
On the fifth and final day, the guests resumed their innings at 42-0 after rain had halted play early on Monday. They successfully chased down Pakistan’s second innings target of 185 runs, securing their first-ever Test series victory over the hosts.
With openers Zakir Hasan (40) and Shadman Islam (24) giving a solid start, the visitors kept the Shan Masood-led side from making a comeback. Experienced players Mushfiqur Rahim (22*) and Shakib Al Hasan (21*) completed the run chase, securing the victory in 56 overs.
With today’s defeat, Pakistan has now lost five consecutive Tests in the ongoing World Test Championship, including three against Australia and two against Bangladesh.
During their chase, Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam were dismissed by Mir Hamza and Khurram Shahzad, respectively. However, skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto (38) and Mominul Haque (34) formed a crucial partnership to guide the visitors home. Shanto was dismissed by Salman Ali Agha, while Abrar Ahmed took out Haque.
The day before, the visitors bowled out Pakistan for 172, with Hasan Mahmud and Nahid Rana taking five and four wickets, respectively. The hosts began the day at 9/2 and made a decent start with Saim Ayub and skipper Shan Masood adding 38 runs. Ayub was dismissed by Taskin Ahmed after scoring 20 off 35 balls.
Rizwan contributed 43 runs from 73 balls, including five fours, while Abrar Ahmed managed just two runs before being dismissed. Mahmud ended Pakistan’s innings by dismissing Mir Hamza (4).
Salman Ali Agha added valuable runs for Pakistan, remaining unbeaten on 47. Mahmud achieved his first five-wicket haul in Test cricket, becoming the first Bangladesh pacer to do so in an innings in Pakistan.
Earlier, in response to Pakistan’s first innings total of 274, Bangladesh was in trouble at 26-6 due to aggressive fast bowling. However, Litton Das’s resilient 138 and Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s 78 helped the tourists recover, ultimately posting 262 all out after Shahzad’s six-wicket haul on the third day.
Today’s loss adds to Pakistan’s earlier defeat in the first Test, where the visitors secured a 10-wicket victory.
