The battle for a place in the semi-finals of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup | OyeYeah News
The battle for a place in the semi-finals of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup continues in the United Arab Emirates.
In the Super 12 stage of the T20 World Cup, 6 teams have been divided into 2 groups, while the teams in each group will play five matches and the top 2 teams will qualify for the semi-finals.
Pakistan has already made it to the semi-finals after winning four matches in a row in Group 2, while the six teams in the group have yet to play their last match. Namibia and Scotland have already been knocked out of the semi-finals.
On Friday, in the day’s first match New Zealand beat Namibia, and then India thrashed Scotland by 8 wickets.
In Group 2, Pakistan is first with 8 points, New Zealand is second with 6 points, India is third with 4 points and Afghanistan is fourth with 4 points due to lower net run rate.
India beat Scotland by 8 wickets in a one-sided contest to improve their run rate in Group 2 over Pakistan, Afghanistan, and New Zealand.
Now, if India is to make it to the semi-finals, it will have to pray for Afghanistan’s victory in the match between Afghanistan and New Zealand on November 7 and win its last match against Namibia on November 8.
If New Zealand beats Afghanistan on November 7, India’s hopes of reaching the semi-finals will be over.
New Zealand will become the second team to reach the semi-finals from Group 2 with 8 points, while India and Afghanistan will book their return tickets.
In addition, if Afghanistan beats New Zealand and India also wins its match against Namibia, then India, New Zealand, and Afghanistan will have 6.6 points in Group 2 and India will likely be based on a better run rate. Will reach the semi-finals.
Therefore, the responsibility of taking India to the semi-finals has in a way fallen on the shoulders of Afghanistan.
Pakistan has to play its last match against Scotland on November 7.
