Chandro Tomar Aka Shooter Dadi Dies of COVID Aged 89

Veteran Indian sharpshooter Chandro Tomar also known as ‘Shooter Dadi’ died of Covid-19 aged 89 at Meerut medical college on Friday.

As being reported Chandro Tomar had contracted the novel coronavirus infection and was admitted to hospital due to breathing problems on April 26.

Chandro was an octogenarian sharpshooter from the village of Johri in the Bagpat district of Uttar Pradesh.

She is believed to be the oldest sharpshooter in the world, who took part in several competitions with her sister Prakashi Tomar.

Their story had inspired Bollywood filmmakers to make the movie “Saand ki Aankh” in 2019.

Following her death news, Bollywood actors Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekartook to Twitter to mourn the demise of the former octogenarian sharpshooter.

Both the stars have played the charters inspired by the sharpshooter sisters in the film.

Taapsee Pannu who has played the character of Chandro Tomar wrote: “For the inspiration, you will always be… You will live on forever in all the girls you gave hope to live. My cutest rockstar May the and peace be with you.”

 

Bhumi Pednekarwho played Prakashi Tomar in the film, in her tweet said: “Devastated by the news of Chandro Dadi’s demise. Feels like a part of me is gone. She made her own rules & paved the path for many girls to find their dream. Her legacy will live on in them. Condolences to the family. Am lucky I got to know and be her #ChandroTomar #ShooterDadi”
