Dominant Alcaraz beat Djokovic in straight sets to retain Wimbledon title

Defeat denied Djokovic his 25th Grand Slam title

Dominant Alcaraz beat Djokovic in straight sets to retain the Wimbledon title!

It appeared to be a rematch of last year’s Wimbledon final to defend his title on Sunday successfully.

Spain’s 21-year-old produced an utterly ruthless performance to dismantle Serbia’s Novak Djokovic by 6-2 6-2 7-6(4).

Today’s defeat denied Djokovic his 25th Grand Slam title, which would have surpassed Margaret Court on the all-time list. Also, it prevented him from equaling Roger Federer’s record of eight men’s singles titles at Wimbledon.

Alcaraz now boasts four Grand Slam trophies, maintaining a perfect record in major finals. His victories include two Wimbledon titles, the 2022 U.S. Open, and his recent French Open win last month.

Alcaraz capitalized on his fifth break point in a tight first game that lasted 14 minutes. The 21-year-old third seed then dominated the opening set with powerful serving.

In the second set, second seed Djokovic faced more pressure as Alcaraz aggressively challenged him in the early exchanges, breaking Djokovic’s serve and exploiting his service struggles to take a commanding two-set lead.

The two players battled evenly until 4-4 in the third set when Alcaraz broke Djokovic’s serve with a strong backhand winner to lead 5-4. Despite being 40-0 up, Alcaraz squandered three match points and lost his serve.

However, he steadied his nerves to secure victory in the tiebreak when Djokovic hit a return into the net.
