Footballer Achraf Hakimi is reported to have been charged with rape!

Paris Saint-Germain and Morocco defender Achraf Hakimi has been charged with rape, French prosecutors told AFP on Friday.

As reported, Hakimi was questioned by prosecutors on Thursday in connection with accusations from a 24-year-old woman, and subsequently charged.

Achraf Hakimi, 24, was made aware of the investigation 90 minutes ahead of Monday’s FIFA The Best awards.

As per Le Parisien, the alleged victim reported the incident at a police station in Paris on Sunday evening but did not want to press charges against the footballer.

Yet the public prosecutor’s office in Nanterre, a suburb of Paris, confirmed an investigation was opened.

A 24-year-old woman has accused Hakimi of raping her at his home in Paris on Saturday, February 25.

The Morocco international’s lawyer Fanny Colin has previously insisted the allegation is “false”.

In a statement released, Hakimi’s representative also confirmed the footballer was “making himself available to the authorities” for the investigation.

PSG in a statement released prior to the charges being made, said: “The club supports the player, who has firmly denied the accusations and trusts the justice system. Paris St-Germain is an institution that promotes respect on and off the pitch.”
