Germany edge Pakistan in their opening Hockey World Cup match

Pakistan went down fighting against Germany in their opening game of the Hockey World Cup. 3rd quarter goal from Marco Miltkau proved decisive as Pakistan failed to unlock the German defense.

In the pool D game, Pakistan started strong. Especially in defence they neutralized the German attackers. In the 2 initial periods, German struggled to make penetrating passes as Pakistani defenders covered their basis.

However, in the 36th minutes, Marco Miltkau dove and scooped the ball in the net, taking Germany ahead in the game. Pakistani forward huffed and puffed but were unable to convert the few chances they had.

Pakistan are pooled in group D with Germany, Holland & Malaysia. Pakistan team management would have taken heart from this solid display. One would they can improve on their offensive performance while taking it tight at the back.

Pakistan’s next game is against Malaysia on the 5th of December.
