World No. tennis player Simona Halep has tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday.
The 29-year-old Romanian, who won the French Open in 2018 and is the reigning Wimbledon champion, said that she is recovering well from her mild symptoms.
Taking it to social media, Halep in a tweet shared, “Hi everyone, I wanted to let you know that I tested positive for COVID-19. I am self-isolating at home and am recovering well from mild symptoms”.
“I feel good … we will get through this together”, she added.
Halep played at the claycourt Grand Slam in Paris but lost to eventual champion Iga Swiatek in the fourth round at Roland Garros this month.
The former world number one did go to New York for this year’s US Open Grand Slam due to health concerns amid the pandemic.
