Heinrich Klaasen Fined and Penalized for Code Breach in Second ODI Against Pakistan
The wicket-keeper batter was penalised for kicking the stumps after being dismissed
Heinrich Klaasen, the South African wicketkeeper-batter, has been fined 15% of his match fee for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the second ODI against Pakistan.
This incident occurred on Thursday, December 19, 2024, in Cape Town, where Klaasen kicked the stumps in frustration after being dismissed for 97 runs, just three short of a century.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) classified this as a Level 1 breach under Article 2.2, which pertains to the “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match.”
In addition to the financial penalty, Klaasen received one demerit point on his disciplinary record. This was noted as his first offence within a 24-month period, meaning it does not carry further immediate consequences.
Match referee Richie Richardson imposed the sanctions after Klaasen admitted to the offence, eliminating the need for a formal hearing.
The incident took place at the end of a match where South Africa lost to Pakistan by 81 runs, resulting in Pakistan securing an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
The final ODI is scheduled for December 22 in Johannesburg.
