Indian Cricketer Mohammed Shami Receives Death Threat and Ransom Demand via Email, FIR Registered

FIR was filed by Shami’s brother at Amroha Cyber Crime Police Station, Uttar Pradesh.

Indian cricketer Mohammad Shami has received a death threat via email, along with a ransom demand of ₹1 crore.

The threat was sent by an individual identified as Rajput Sindar (also spelt Sundar Rajput in some reports). The email warned of Shami’s assassination unless the ransom was paid.

The complaint was lodged by Shami’s brother, Haseeb Ahmed, at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Amroha district, Uttar Pradesh.

The FIR was registered on the orders of the Superintendent of Police under sections 308(4) of the Indian Penal Code (BNS) 2023, and sections 66d and 66e of the Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008.

As reported, the police are investigating the matter and trying to identify the sender.

Shami is currently playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2025. The incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of high-profile individuals in India, with the cricketing community expressing solidarity and condemning the threat. Fans have also shown support for Shami on social media and demanded swift justice.

This is not an isolated case; Indian cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir also received similar death threats via email last month and is under police protection. Authorities are actively investigating both cases to ensure the safety of the individuals involved.
