Japan beat Pakistan in penalty shootout to lift Sultan Azlan Shah Cup

Pakistan last won the tournament in 2003.

Japan beat Pakistan in a penalty shootout by 4-1 to lift the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup on Saturday in Ipoh, Malaysia.

The winner of the final of the tournament was decided by penalty shootout as the match ended at 2-2 after 4 quarters.

Japan won the penalty shootout 1-4 to win the Azlan Shah Hockey Tournament title for the first time.

Japan took a one-nil lead against Pakistan in the first quarter while both teams failed to score a goal in the second quarter.

Pakitan managed to take a 1-2 lead in the third quarter.

Pakistan’s Ahmed Ejaz scored in the 34th minute and Abdul Rehman in the 37th minute.

However, Japan tied the score 2-2 in the fourth quarter as Kazumasama put the ball in the goal in the 47th minute.

In the fourth quarter, Pakistan had several opportunities to take the lead, but the national team could not take advantage of it.

It was tough luck for the Pakistan team who last played in the final of the Azlan Shah Hockey Tournament in 2011, thirteen good years ago.

Pakistan last won the tournament in 2003.

It should be noted that Pakistan remained undefeated in the tournament, by winning 3 matches and 2 were drawn.
