Kamran Akmal announces retirement from all forms of cricket

“Obviously, I will not be playing cricket anymore due to new roles in PCB,” he said.

Kamran Akmal announced his retirement from all forms of cricket!

Holding a press conference in Karachi on Tuesday, Kamran Akmal said he is now focused on new roles in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The development comes as Kamran will be taking the new responsibility at the national men’s selection committee alongside Yasir Hameed and Mohammad Sami with Haroon Rashid as chairman.

“To me, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) handed over the responsibility of the chairmanship of the junior selection committee, which means there is no possibility of playing more international cricket,” Mr Akmal said of his retirement decision.

“After all, every cricketer has to say goodbye to this sport,” said the highest run scorer of the first edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Mr Akmal recalled his desire to play more cricket, saying, “I will continue to play league cricket in Australia and the United States in the future.”

Believing now was the best time to retire, he stated, “I will not blame anyone for not getting further opportunities in the national team.”

“Obviously, I will not be playing cricket anymore due to new roles in PCB,” he said.

“I will be playing small leagues but that too depends on my responsibilities in a new role given to me by PCB,” he added.

Kamran Akmal is currently working as a batting mentor with Peshawar Zalmi for a week.

The right-hand batter is an all-time second-highest run-scorer in Pakistan Super League (PSL) with 1,972 runs in 74 innings but went unpicked in the eighth edition’s players’ draft.

Kamran Akmal represented Pakistan in 53 Tests, 157 ODIs, and 58 T20Is and last played an international match back in 2017 in West Indies.
