Medvedev wins his maiden Grand Slam title beating Djokovic in straight sets!
Russia’s Daniil Medvedev won the 2021 US Open title on Sunday with a stunning 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 win, ending world No. 1 Novak Djokovic’s bid for a record 21st major title that would have completed the calendar Grand Slam.
Playing in his third major final, Medvedev, hoisted a Grand Slam trophy while avenging a straight-sets defeat by Djokovic earlier this year in the Australian Open final.

34-year-old Djokovic who had arrived on Arthur Ashe Stadium court with the weight of history on his shoulders, trying to become the first man in over a half-century to win all four majors (Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and the U.S. Open) in the same year.
However, Djokovic found himself in an early hole after dropping the first set.
And rest is the history now.
Speaking post final match, Djokovic said: I am disappointed, I know I could have and should have done better. Very tough loss, but I am happy for him, he is a nice guy and deserves it.
“My feeling on the court energy-wise was not as good as vs. Tsitsipas in Paris. The turning point was the start of the second set. I was very close to break there. Who knows the trajectory of the match, with the crowd, but he did so well, deserved to win.
“I was short today, but I have to be proud of what we achieved this year. I’ve learned to overcome this kind of tough losses, the ones that hurt the most. I will try to be stronger, to learn some lessons and to keep going.
