Messi has joined Ronaldo and Ali Daei as the only men to ever score 100 international goals!

Argentina captain Lionel Messi scored his 100th international goal for the reigning world champions in a low-key friendly against Curacao on Tuesday.

Messi completed a century of international goals and also scored a hat-trick of goals while becoming the first player to score a century of international goals for his country.

After completing 100 goals in international football, Lionel Messi is third in the list of top goalscorers, just 15 behind Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo and 7 behind Iran’s Ali Daei.

The 35-year-old opened the scoring in the friendly against the Caribbean island minnows at 20 minutes in Santiago del Estero.

Seven-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi soon added another just after the half-hour mark to make it 3-0.

The evening then saw him complete his hat-trick in 37 minutes with the fifth as Argentina toyed with their overmatched opponents. That was the 57th hat trick for Messi!

Messi came into the game not just as Argentina’s all-time record goalscorer, but with more goals than the next two top marksmen – Gabriel Batistuta with 56 and Sergio Aguero with 41 – put together.
