Muhammad Masroor Steps Down as Fielding Coach Amid PCB Coaching Reshuffle

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided not to extend Masroor’s contract

Muhammad Masroor has officially confirmed his departure as the Pakistan cricket team’s fielding coach.

On Friday, he announced his exit through a heartfelt message on social media, expressing gratitude to the players, staff, and fans, and stating that he leaves with “no regrets, only pride and best wishes for what lies ahead”.

Masroor, who was working on a series-to-series contract, had been tasked with improving Pakistan’s fielding standards—a department that has long been a concern for the team.

As reported, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided not to extend Masroor’s contract as part of a broader reshuffle of the coaching setup ahead of the Asia Cup 2025.

In response, the PCB has appointed Australian coach Shane McDermott as the new fielding coach. McDermott brings significant international experience, having previously worked with Australia, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.

Additionally, Grant Luden has been re-appointed as the strength and conditioning coach, marking a return to a role he has held with the team in the past.

Masroor’s departure comes just weeks before the Asia Cup, with the PCB hoping that the new appointments will help address persistent fielding issues and bring a fresh approach to the team’s preparations for a busy international season.
