Pakistan and West Indies will face each other at the ICC World Cup 2019 on 31st May. The odd thing about that is Pakistani former spinner will be appearing in the world cup against Pakistan.
Mushtaq Ahmed has been appointed for the responsibility of mentoring West Indies cricket team during the ICC World Cup 2019,
The bowling coach must be proud as West Indies beat New Zealand by 91 runs, in the warmup match at Bristol on Tuesday.
The famed coach has revealed that he has found himself in a difficult spot as he is divided between his professional duties and personal inclinations
“I am with the West Indies team because of professional commitments. I will try to not speak much at the team meeting before the match against Pakistan,” he stated.
Mushtaq Ahmed went on to express that earlier while coaching the Pakistan team he felt disappointed at seeing them lose against England saying: “It is not easy to see Pakistan lose like that.”
Speaking about the World Cup and the strategy prepared by Windies for facing Pakistan, he stated, “The team has fierce batsmen and its bowlers are most likely to deliver bouncers.”
He further added, “I do foster warm wishes for Pakistan but my professional commitments demand that I work hard for the West Indies team and coach them to the best”.
In his cricket career, Mushtaq Ahmed took 346 international wickets. He was part of the 1992 World Cup winning side and has been a bowling coach for both England and Pakistan.
A leg break googly bowler, at his peak he was described as being one of the best three wrist-spinners in the world.
In late 2008, the England and Wales Cricket Board appointed Mushtaq as a spin-bowling coach to the England cricket team until 2014.
In April 2016, Mushtaq was named as head coach of Pakistan’s National Cricket Academy.
In November 2018 Ahmed was appointed as the assistant coach and spin consultant of West Indies national cricket team ahead of the tour of Bangladesh.
