The renovation and upgrade of the National Stadium in Karachi for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 have entered their final phase, with the completion deadline extended for the third time.

The new deadline is set for January 31, 2025, as confirmed by Arshad Khan, General Manager of the stadium, and Project Manager Mohammad Bilal Chohan, who assured the media that all construction work will be completed on schedule for the mega event.

Initially, the first phase of the upgrade was scheduled for completion by December 15, 2024, but this was extended multiple times—first to December 31, then to January 25, and now to January 31. The renovation project commenced on October 22, following approval from the PCB’s governing board under Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.

The renovation includes significant infrastructure improvements:

  • Completion of a five-story building: Facilities include an ICC Anti-Corruption Unit, Anti-Doping Unit, physiotherapy rooms, and match officials’ rooms on the ground floor.
  • Dressing rooms: Two dressing rooms on the second floor are nearing completion.
  • Hospitality boxes: The third and fourth floors will feature 24 hospitality boxes accommodating approximately 1,000 people.
  • Modern amenities: The project includes state-of-the-art lifts, modern LED lighting akin to international stadiums, and a new corridor for guest access.

The total cost of renovations is estimated at Rs3.5 billion, focusing on safety and security measures to ensure a smooth event.
