Novak Djokovic surpasses Steffi Graf to set a new record in tennis!

Serbian professional tennis player Novak Djokovic has now overtaken Steffi Graf and has become the player to remain World No.1 for the longest period.

Steffi Graf had spent 377 weeks as the 1 single player in women’s tennis.

Today, her incredible record has been broken by men’s single No 1, Novak Djokovic.

Since playing his first ATP-level tournament in Umag in 2004, Djokovic, 35, has ended the year as the world’s number one in seven years.

No other male player has achieved this feat.

The next best in male rankings is Roger Federer at 310.

Most weeks at World No. 1:

  1. 378 – Novak Djokovic
  2. 377 – Steffi Graf
  3. 332 – Martina Navratilova
  4. 319 – Serena Williams
  5. 310 – Roger Federer
  6. 286 – Pete Sampras
  7. 270 – Ivan Lendl

Djokovic also stands alone among male players for ATP 1000 tournament wins, with 38 over the course of his career. It is the most of any player, and the six ATP 1000 events Djokovic claimed in 2015 is the most of any player in a single season.

Proving himself to be all-time tennis great, Djokovic has reached an average of six finals in each of the Grand Slam tournaments.

Djokovic is the only player to do so and is the first player to play a minimum of 10 semi-finals in each of the Grand Slam tournaments.

At the 2023 Australian Open, Djokovic moved equal with Graf and Rafael Nadal in combined male and female records, as he claimed the 22nd Grand Slam of his career. It is the joint-most in male records and combined, only trails Serena Williams at 23.

This year’s Australian Open final was also the 350th time Djokovic had faced an opponent ranked in the ATP’s top 10. It is the most of any male player in the open era, while his 69.4% win rate only trails the 71% of Bjorn Borg among players with 100 wins
