PAK vs BAN 2nd Test-Day 3: Mehidy and Das Rescue Bangladesh After Early Collapse
Pakistan's Khurram Shahzad claimed six wickets
Bangladesh’s Litton Das scored a resilient 138, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz added 78, helping the visitors recover from a precarious situation to reach 262 all out. Pakistan’s Khurram Shahzad claimed six wickets on the third day of the second Test in Rawalpindi on Sunday.
In response to Pakistan’s first-innings score of 274, Bangladesh crumbled to 26-6, teetering on the brink of a follow-on due to fierce fast bowling in the morning. However, Das and Miraz formed a crucial 165-run partnership for the seventh wicket, stabilizing the innings.
Das struck 13 fours and four sixes in his 228-ball innings, while Miraz, who had earlier taken five wickets to dismantle Pakistan, showcased his batting skills by hitting 12 fours and a six.
After a challenging day, Pakistan found themselves at 9-2 in their second innings by stumps, holding a slender lead of 21 as they strive to level the two-match series following a 10-wicket defeat in the first Test.
Hasan Mahmud dismissed Abdullah Shafique and bowled night-watchman Shahzad on the last ball of the day.
Earlier, Bangladesh resumed their innings at 10 without loss after holding Pakistan at bay on Saturday, following a washed-out opening day. However, they quickly found themselves under intense pressure.
Shahzad (6-90), generating significant pace and swing, removed Zakir Hasan and then bowled Shadman Islam and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto in his following over, while Mir Hamza chipped in with two quick wickets.
Shahzad then trapped the seasoned Shakib Al Hasan lbw, leaving the stunned visitors in deep trouble, still needing 98 runs to avoid the follow-on.
Despite this, Miraz and Das mounted an impressive counterattack, guiding Bangladesh to 75-6 by lunch and steadily accumulating runs against Pakistan’s bowlers to reach their half-centuries.
Shortly after Miraz launched a massive six off Shahzad to push their partnership beyond 150 runs, he offered an easy catch to the pace bowler.
However, Das continued to frustrate Pakistan by reaching his fourth Test century.
