Pakistan was knocked out of the T20 World Cup after the US-Ireland match was called off due to rain on Friday.
The Green team, having lost to both the USA and India, saw their exit confirmed with this abandoned match.
Despite one remaining fixture against Ireland, it will be a dead rubber for the Pakistan team.
Pakistan reached the semi-finals in 2021 and the final in 2022, showcasing their resilience and competitive spirit. Pakistan has made it to the T20 World Cup semi-finals six times (2007, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2021, and 2022) — the most by any team.
This year’s early exit marks Pakistan’s first group-stage departure since 2016 and only the third in the tournament’s history.
The United States vs Ireland match was called off due to a wet outfield at the Central Broward Regional Park, Lauderhill, Florida amid rain.
The groundstaff spent hours trying to dry the wet outfield but shortly after the umpires had inspected conditions, a huge downpour ended any hope of the play.
With the match called abandoned without a single ball bowled, both the US and Ireland were given one point each.
With this, the USA made their way to the Super 8 of the World Cup with five points on the points table.
The USA made a strong start to the tournament, by winning their opener against Canada and subsequently defeating Pakistan last week in a shocker.
India has already qualified from Group A, while Pakistan, Ireland and Canada will now head back home after completing their group matches.
