QEA Trophy Final: SNGPL fight on a slow day

The final of Country’s biggest tournament is underway right now as our national side and A side battle it out in the UAE. Similar to the slow moving nature of the test matches in UAE, on the 1st day batsmen found it tough in Karachi. Scoring at the run rate of 2.64, defending champions Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited reached 238 for the loss of six wickets.

Leading from the front was captain Misbah ul Haq. He remained not out at the end of the day, on 72. This would be a relief not only to Misbah but Peshawar Zalmi fans too. Many batsmen got starts but couldn’t convert. Opener Ali Waqas laboured to 38 before being bowled by Pakistan all rounder Faheem Ashraf. Faheem, has been released from the Pakistan test squad to allow him to play this final. While, Khurram Shehzad scored 47. Test keeper, Adnan Akmal also chipped in with 22, while Mohammad Imran remained not out on 23.

For Habib Bank, Lahore Qalandars all-rounder Agha Salman picked up two wickets with his off spin. Khurram Shehzad, also picked up a brace. Veteran left arm spinner Abdur Rehman and Faheem Ashraf picked a wicket each. SNGPL would be hoping that their captain can drag them closer to 300, and in doing so reach his 100. While, Habib Bank would want push for early wickets. While, day time is still pretty hot in Karachi, early morning moisture, might assist Umer Gul and Faheem Ashraf. Interesting day ahead.
