Quetta Gladiators Appoint Saud Shakeel as Captain for HBL PSL 10

Shakeel Shakeel is replacing South Africa’s Rilee Rossouw

Quetta Gladiators have officially appointed Saud Shakeel as their captain for the upcoming HBL PSL 10 season, marking a significant shift in leadership for the franchise.

Former Pakistan Super League (PSL) champions made the announcement on Friday through their official social media platforms, unveiling an animated image of Shakeel dressed in the Gladiators’ vest and riding a horse.

The post was captioned: “Introducing the new Commander of the Gladiators, Saud Shakeel. With fresh energy and unshakable determination, he’s ready to lead Quetta Gladiators to glory in Pakistan Super League 10. The rise of the Gladiators begins now!”

This decision comes after a series of disappointing performances in previous seasons, prompting a comprehensive review of the team’s strategy and dynamics.

The Gladiators aim to revamp their approach with Shakeel at the helm. His recent performance, including a strike rate of 141.67 last season, contributed to his selection as captain. Additionally, he will also open the batting for the team.

Sarfaraz Ahmed, who captained the Gladiators for nine years and led them to their only PSL title in 2019, was released from the team earlier this month. He had been replaced as captain during the last season by Rilee Rossouw, who guided the team to the playoffs but did not secure a final appearance.

The appointment of Saud Shakeel is part of a broader strategy to reclaim past glory and improve team performance in PSL 2025.

The franchise is optimistic that this new leadership will foster better results and reinvigorate the team’s competitive spirit as they prepare for the tournament scheduled from April 8 to May 19, 2025.
