Sarfaraz Ahmed Clarifies Retirement Speculations: “Decision Will Be Personal”
His last appearance for Pakistan was during a Test series against Australia in late 2023
Former Pakistan cricket captain Sarfaraz Ahmed on Monday addressed speculation regarding his potential retirement from international cricket, emphasizing that the decision will be personal.
During an exclusive interview with Geo News, he stated, “As far as leaving cricket is concerned, that is my personal decision. When I feel that I should quit cricket, I will quit.”
This comes after he previously remarked that “there is nothing left to say” about his career, which led to assumptions about his imminent retirement.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his selection for the national team, the 37-year-old wicketkeeper-batter clarified that he continues to play cricket and is open to any opportunities that arise.
He mentioned, “I am still playing cricket and will avail whatever opportunity I would get,” indicating his commitment to the sport regardless of his current status with the national team.
“In the Pakistan team, I never said that ‘I want to bat on this position or that position’. If I could be selected [in the national team], I would be.
Sarfaraz Ahmed made his international debut in 2007 and has since played 54 Tests, 117 ODIs, and 61 T20Is, accumulating over 6,164 runs.
He notably led Pakistan to victory in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy, marking a significant achievement in his career.
He also captained Pakistan to 11 consecutive T20I series victories, the most by a Pakistan captain.
His last appearance for Pakistan was during a Test series against Australia in late 2023.
