South Africa (259/4) beat West Indies (258/5) by 6 wickets in Centurion

South Africa recorded the highest successful run chase in T20Is against West Indies!

South Africa set a new world record by scoring 259 runs to defeat the West Indies in the second T20I match.

SA has also become the first side ever to score 100+ runs in the Powerplay in a T20 international.

With the win, the Proteas have now levelled the series by 1-1.

South Africa won the toss and elected to bowl first in a record T20I match played at the Centurion Super Sports Park, which did not prove to be a good start.

Wayne Parnell got Brendan King going in the first over but then Kyle Mears and Johnson-Charles became a nightmare for the South Africans.

The two players displayed excellent aggressive batting and put on a partnership of 135 runs off the next 58 balls, Kyle Meyers was the other man to be dismissed after scoring 51 runs off 27 balls with 4 sixes and 5 fours by Marco Jensen.

Jensen gave his team another breakthrough soon after, but Nicholas Pooran also got the job done, but

For WI, Johnson-Charles continued his excellent form and completed the century in just 39 balls to become the fastest century by the West Indian batter.

Johnson-Charles became Jensen’s third wicket after scoring 118 runs off 46 balls with the help of 11 sixes and 10 fours.

In the final overs, Romario Shepherd played an aggressive inning of 41 runs off 18 balls, thanks to which the West Indies team was able to score 258 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the allotted overs.

On behalf of South Africa, Jensen took three wickets and Parnell took two wickets.

In pursuit of the target, the South African openers also gave a strong response to the West Indian team and laid the foundations for the target to be achieved.

After completing the team’s half-century in just 16 balls, both players also reached the century in 33 balls and during this time both of them also completed their own half-centuries.

Quinton de Kock played an excellent game and after scoring a half-century in 15 balls, he also achieved the honour of completing a century in 43 balls.

The two players put on a brilliant partnership of 152 runs off 65 balls and this partnership also came to an end with the end of de Kock’s innings of 100 runs studded with 8 sixes and 9 fours.

Riley Russo was aggressive as he came to the wicket and scored 16 runs with two sixes and a four but was bowled by Odin Smith on the third ball.

Reza Hendricks also played a good offensive game and played a turn of 68 runs off 28 balls, but he also walked on a total of 193, while David Miller’s innings also ended on 10 runs.

At this stage, Henry Klaasen came in to support captain Edner Markram on the crease and both of them set a new world record by taking their team to victory with seven balls to spare without further loss.

Quinton de Kock was awarded Man of the Match for his brilliant century.

SA’s latest feat is the highest target achieved by any team in T20 cricket while the total of 517 runs scored in the match is the highest number of runs scored in any T20 International match.

A total of 81 boundaries were hit in the match which is the highest number of volley boundaries in any T20 match.
