Sweden Drops Rape Case Against Kylian Mbappé Over Lack of Evidence

Mbappé's representatives have consistently denied any wrongdoing, labelling the allegations as "totally false" and "slanderous".

The Swedish prosecutors have officially closed a rape investigation involving Kylian Mbappé, citing insufficient evidence as the reason for the decision.

The investigation stemmed from allegations related to an incident that reportedly occurred at a hotel in Stockholm on October 10, 2024, during Mbappé’s visit to the city while he was not selected for a Nations League match with France.

Prosecutor Marina Chirakova announced that the investigation was terminated because the evidence collected was inadequate to proceed with any charges.

She noted that while there was a designated suspect, they had not been formally notified of any criminal suspicion, nor had they been interrogated during the investigation.

The allegations included one count of rape and two counts of sexual assault. Swedish media had identified Mbappé as the suspect based on reports from various outlets, although authorities did not confirm this publicly.

Mbappé’s representatives have consistently denied any wrongdoing, labelling the allegations as “totally false” and “slanderous”.

Following the closure of the case, lawyers for both Mbappé and the plaintiff declined to comment further. Mbappé himself expressed surprise at being linked to the investigation, stating in a recent interview that he had not received any formal communication regarding the case and maintained his innocence.

The incident was reported shortly after a night out where Mbappé and his companions visited a restaurant and a nightclub. A complaint was filed on October 12 by an unnamed individual who sought medical assistance following the alleged events.

Real Madrid, Mbappé’s club, has chosen not to comment on the matter following the conclusion of the investigation.
