Tamim Iqbal Suffers Heart Attack During Match, Undergoes Emergency Angioplasty
The Bangladesh Cricket Board cancelled its scheduled meeting following the incident, with several officials visiting the hospital to check on his condition.

Former Bangladesh cricket captain Tamim Iqbal suffered a heart attack while playing in a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match on Monday.
The 36-year-old was leading Mohammedan Sporting Club against Shinepukur Cricket Club when he experienced chest pain during the first innings. After fielding for just one over, he was rushed to Fazilatunnesa Hospital in Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka, where he underwent an emergency angioplasty to remove a blockage in his heart.
Initially, attempts were made to airlift him to Dhaka by helicopter, but his condition prevented this, and he was taken back to the hospital where the procedure was successfully carried out. Doctors described his condition as critical upon arrival but confirmed that the angioplasty went smoothly, and he is currently under observation.
Tamim, who retired from international cricket in January 2025, is one of Bangladesh’s most celebrated cricketers, having scored over 15,000 runs across formats and hitting 25 centuries—the most by any Bangladeshi batter.
