U19 Asia Cup: Pakistan qualifies for semifinal after beating Afghanistan by 83 runs

This was Pakistan's third consecutive win in the tournament.

Pakistan U19on Tuesday qualified for the semifinal after beating Afghanistan by 83 runs in a one-sided match of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Under19s Asia Cup at the ICC Academy Ground in Dubai.

17-year-old Ubaid Shah emerged as the hero of the day for Pakistan as he picked up three important wickets and helped his side get on a dominating seat.

Afghanistan suffered early blows, losing four wickets for just 60 runs in 13 overs and could never recover against Pakistan’s bowling attack.

Numan Shah was the top-scorer for the struggling Afghan side by putting in 54 runs on the scoreboard but he, too, became the victim of Ubaid Shah’s magic.

Afghanistan side was all out at 220 runs in 48.4 overs.

Pakistan posted a colossal 303-run total on the scoreboard batting first.

Pakistan’s three young batters — Shamyl Hussain, Shahzaib Khan, and Riaz Ullah — delivered the best with the bat.

The openers Shamyl and Shahzaib provided Pakistan with a dream start as both batters combined for 115 runs before the former lost his wicket in the 17th over.

Shamyl played an electrifying knock of 75 runs off just 54 balls with seven fours and five sixes at an astounding 138.88 strike rate.

The 19-year-old’s rapid innings helped Shahzaib on the other as he took his time to settle on the pitch.

Shahzaib came to the crease after Shamyl’s dismissal and played a responsible knock of 79 runs with 10 boundaries.

He lost his wicket to Faridoon Dawoodzai in the 34th over.

At this point of the match, Pakistan’s batting emerged to have been struggling as only four batters managed to score in double figures.

The way wickets kept falling, it looked as if Pakistan U19 would have to settle for somewhere under 250 runs but Riaz’s crucial innings of 73 runs put the green team in dominating position,

Azan Awais, the hero of the match against India, could only add 20 runs to the total.

Shamyl Hussain was awarded Player of the Match for his impactful knock.

This was Pakistan’s third consecutive win in the tournament.
