US Open 2020: Dominic Thiem Claims His maiden Grand Slam Title

Austria’s Dominic Thiem has claimed his maiden Grand Slam title by beating Germany’s Alexander Zverev 2-6 4-6 6-4 6-3 7-6(6) in a nerve-jangling battle in the U.S. Open final on Sunday.

The world number 7, German tennis star Alexander Zverev won the starting 2 sets against Dominic Thiem in the final of US Open 2020 but Dominic Thiem made a brilliant comeback to win the next 3 sets and clinch his maiden Grand Slam title.

“I wish there were two winners today. We both deserved it,” Thiem said on court after a tearful speech from his 23-year-old opponent.

The 27-year-old world number three has become the second Austrian to win a Grand Slam title after Thomas Muster’s 1995 French Open title. Thiem had lost the last two French Open finals to Rafa Nadal and this year’s Australian Open final to Novak Djokovic.
