Waqar Younis apologises for his controversial remarks about Mohammad Rizwan praying during the T20 WC Pakistan and India match.
The images of Pakistan wicket keeper-opener Mohammad Rizwan during the innings water break have stormed the internet following the India-Pakistan key match in Dubai on Sunday.
The former fast bowler and Pakistan bowling coach Waqar Younis had said that what impressed him the most during the match was that Rizwan stood in the middle of the ground and offered his prayers in front of several Hindus.
His statement received quite a flank on social media, and following the backlash, Waqar Younis apologised for his controversial remarks.
Taking to his Twitter handle, Younis wrote: “In the heat of the moment, I said something which I did not mean, which has hurt the sentiments of many.”
“I apologise for this, this was not intended at all, genuine mistake,” he wrote, adding that sports unites people “regardless of race, colour or religion.”
