Wasim Akram has publicly criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for selecting Faheem Ashraf for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Speaking at a press conference, Akram expressed his concerns over Ashraf’s recent performance, highlighting that in his last 20 matches, Ashraf has a bowling average of 100 and a batting average of just 9.

This performance record has led Akram to label Ashraf’s inclusion as an “out of the blue” decision, which has left many in the cricket community baffled.
Akram also pointed out the strategic flaw in Pakistan’s squad composition, noting that while India has opted for four spinners in their team, Pakistan has included only one specialist spinner, Abrar Ahmed.

He emphasized that this lack of spin options is concerning given the subcontinental conditions expected during the tournament. In addition to Ashraf, Akram criticized the selection of Khushdil Shah, suggesting that both players have not demonstrated sufficient form to warrant their places in the squad.
The criticism from Akram reflects a broader discontent among former players regarding the PCB’s selection process, with some suggesting that political motivations may have influenced certain choices.
