Apple recalls MacBook Pro due to battery overheating concerns

American multinational technology company Apple has recalled a limited number of its older generation 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops as a caution because their batteries may overheat and pose a safety risk.

The 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops were sold in between September 2015 and February 2017, the company said.

The tech giant offered the replacement of the laptops’ batteries free of cost that has a serial number registered with in the said duration of years.

The recall would not affect newer 15-inch MacBook Pro units or Mac notebooks.

The company has asked their customers to stop using MacBook Pros and visit their dedicated recall website that has been set up where users can input the serial number to determine if their computer is affected.

Several countries are covered by the recall.

According to China’s State Administration for Market Regulation, the republic may have 63,000 units affected by the problem adding that there have been 6 reported incidents of overheating in laptops.

The technology company, however, said it has not received any complaint pertaining to significant damage to computers or injuries due to the fault.

Reports said the battery recall is the second technical glitch to affect Apple laptops this year. Last month, the company confirmed that some of its newer laptops had problematic keyboards and offered free replacements to affected customers.
