Elon Musk Confirms Starlink Awaits Pakistan Govt’s Approval to Launch in the Country
This aligns with ongoing discussions within the Pakistani government.
Elon Musk has confirmed that Starlink is currently awaiting government approval to launch its satellite internet services in Pakistan.
Responding to a user on social media, Musk stated, “We are waiting for approval from the government,” which underscores the regulatory challenges that Starlink faces before entering the Pakistani market.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has indicated that while the license for Starlink is prepared, it is pending security clearance. PTA officials have confirmed that Starlink must also enter into a commercial agreement with the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) before commencing operations.
The government has been actively evaluating Starlink’s entry, but concerns related to national security and bureaucratic delays are still being addressed.
As Pakistan’s IT sector continues to expand, the potential for Starlink to bridge the digital divide—especially in remote areas—remains significant. However, the official launch of its services is contingent upon final government approval.
The Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, has acknowledged ongoing discussions with Starlink and emphasized the need to improve internet connectivity amidst current disruptions faced by millions of users across the country.
