“Facebook works better when it is tracking you,” said the blog. “[We also] use precise location even when you’re not using the app to make sure that alerts and tools are accurate and personalized for you,” it added.

So basically what Facebook meant is that with the launch of new softwares, the social media app will handover device’s location control to the operating systems and users will have a certain level of surveillance even when the app is only running in the background.

However, if the users wish to reduce or eliminate Facebook’s access to their location, they can set personalized settings to disallow Facebook to see where they are.

“If device’s location setting is set to “all the time” but Facebook’s location setting is turned off, it will not track your location data when you’re not using the app,” the blog informed.

This might cause hindrance in terms of limiting few features like Find WiFi and Nearby Friends, but the price isn’t much to pay if it secures a users privacy.
