Meta Outage Hits Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp; Disrupts 150,000+ Users

More than 150,000 users have reported outages across Meta’s platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, as of Wednesday afternoon.

The outage has particularly affected users in major cities such as New York, Boston, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.

The issues began shortly before 1 PM Eastern Time, with significant spikes in reports on Downdetector.com indicating widespread disruptions.

Facebook: Over 96,000 users reported problems accessing the app, with many experiencing difficulties related to server connections and app functionality.

Instagram: Reports of issues exceeded 70,000, with users unable to send messages or access the app effectively.

WhatsApp: Approximately 90% of users reported challenges in sending messages, while 35% faced problems with the mobile app.

Meta has not yet issued an official statement regarding the cause of these disruptions but is reportedly working to resolve the issues as quickly as possible.

Meta’s Wednesday outage follows a global disruption in March that lasted over two hours. According to Reuters, that incident was attributed to a technical issue and affected hundreds of thousands of users.

At its peak, the outage saw over 538,000 issue reports for Facebook and more than 91,000 for Instagram, as reported by The New York Times.
