Microsoft Users Alerted to Increased Cyber Attack Risks
According to the advisory, hackers may take advantage of existing vulnerabilities to gain access without requiring users to open malicious files.
Microsoft products users have been warned about potential cyber-attacks that could exploit vulnerabilities in their systems, according to an advisory from the National Cyber Emergency Response Team (CERT).
This alert highlights the risk of unauthorized access to sensitive data and networks through various versions of Microsoft Windows, including Windows 7 to 11 and Windows Server 2022.
According to the advisory, hackers may take advantage of existing vulnerabilities to gain access without requiring users to open malicious files. This could lead to significant risks, including the theft of login credentials and control over entire systems.
The advisory indicates that all versions of Windows are potentially affected, emphasizing the urgent need for users to secure their systems.
Users are advised to implement dual security systems and enhance their network defences. Specific recommendations include using firewalls and virtual local area networks (VLANs) to protect sensitive information. Additionally, users should avoid opening suspicious files from USB drives, email attachments, or shared folders.
The warning comes amid a broader increase in cyber threats targeting Microsoft tools, with a reported 51% rise in the abuse of legitimate Microsoft binaries by threat actors in 2024 compared to the previous year.
Moreover, Microsoft has acknowledged multiple zero-day vulnerabilities currently being exploited, which further complicates the security landscape for users.
