Indian Ecommerce App Paytm Removed from Play Store Over Policy Violations

In a rather bold statement, tech giant Google has removed the Indian ecommerce app Paytm over ‘repeated policy violations’ on Friday. India’s most hailed startup which allows users to send money to each other through its platform was removed from Google Play Store a day before the launch of the Indian Premier League.

“[Our] company doesn’t facilitate any unregulated gambling apps,” said Suzanne Frey, Vice President, Product, Android Security, and Privacy in a blog post explaining the decision.

“We have these policies to protect users from potential harm. When an app violates these policies, we notify the developer of the violation and remove the app from Google Play until the developer brings the app into compliance,” the VP added.

Suzanne also mentioned that in case of repeated policy violations, “more serious action” including “terminating Google Play Developer account” can be taken thus putting the future of the app with 20 million monthly active users in question.
